Rajpura thermal plant will start soon: Sukhbir Singh Badal

PATIALA: Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said on Wednesday that 1,200 MW Rajpura Thermal Plant will be start soon. He reiterated that with this plant the power situation in the state would improve considerably.
Badal was here to preside over the conference of Student organisation of India (SOI), he said that two plants( Banawali & Goindwal) were already started construction and Punjab Government will finalise third thermal power project within week.
It is learnt that Lanco Infratech, sole bidder has quoted price Rs. 3. 36 per unit for the said project and was ready to decrease it around 10 paisa. A committee headed by Chief Secretary negotiated with Lanco Infratech and submitted report to the chief Minster. In its report committee has suggested three options to the government one is to give green signal to Lanco to start construction on negotiated rate, second is to build the said project by PSEB and third to re invite the applications. Now it is up to Council of Minister to decide it in its next meeting scheduled for Feb. 20.
