Punjab staff to retire at 59

The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of CM, decided to offer an option of re-employment for a period of one year to all retiring employees at the age of 58 years. This has been done to meet the shortage of 35,000 employees who are due to retire in one year. Keen on ensuring that the decision does not adversely affect the employment prospects of the youth, the maximum age limit for recruitment to government services has also been enhanced from present 37 to 38 years. For this, Service Rules would be amended and the new provisions would come into force from the date of notification.
