Water level improves in 3 reservoirs
RUPNAGAR: The water level in all three reservoirs of the region has improved considerably at the end of the filling season this year, because of the late withdrawal of the monsoon.

The filling season of reservoirs ends on September 20. This year, at the end of the filling season, the water level in the Bhakra dam is 1,655 feet, 25 feet less than that of the level on the corresponding day last year.

At the start of the rainy season this year, the water level in the Bhakra dam was 60 feet less than the level on the corresponding day last year. Earlier, the reports on a scanty monsoon forced the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) authorities to reduce the water supply for irrigation by 10% and the corresponding reduction in power generation.
The power generation from the BBMB powerhouses in August was 1,221 million units, 20% less than the generation of 1,512 million units in the corresponding month last year.

At Pong dam reservoir, the water level is 1,390 feet at the end of the filling season, which is only six feet less than the level at the end of the filling season last year.

The power generation at Pong power plant was less by 33% in August as compared to the corresponding month last year. This year, the power generation in August was 160 million units, whereas it was 236 million units last year.

At Ranjit Sagar dam, the present water level is 5 1 9 metre as against last year’s level of 5 2 4 met r e. The present inflow is 18,842 cusecs against the inflow of 14,273 cusecs on the corresponding day last year.
