Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Saturday directed Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to expedite the process to set up a 1,320 MW
capacity thermal power plant at Mukerian in Hoshiarpur.
The Chief Minister, in a meeting here, said keeping in view the huge demand for power, concerted
efforts were required for augmenting the power supply in the state for which
this project has been conceived by the PSPCL. The power plant to be set up with an
investment of nearly Rs 8,000 crore would spread over an area of 900 acres.
PSPCL has already cleared the proposal of setting up of new power plant besides identifying the land where it would come up, state Secretary, Power, Anirudh Tiwari said in the meeting.
Tiwari said modalities of land acquisition for this power plant would be finalised in coming few days, following which the project would be started.
Badal called up Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner to facilitate PSPCL in the process of land acquisition so the work on this ambitious project could be started soon.
He, however, categorically said that the acquisition of land must be done in accordance to the policy of the state government
stipulating that not even an inch of land would be
acquired without the express consent of the stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Badal said the work on thermal power projects at Talwandi Sabo (1,980 MW), Goindwal
Sahib (540 MW) and Rajpura (1,400 MW) were being carried out.
Once the generation from these plants starts, Punjab would get 3,920 MW additional power, he said. This would add another feather in Punjab’s cap and would make the life of people residing in punjab better.PTI
