The PSEB Engineers’ Association has demanded upgradation of transmission and sub-transmission system in Punjab in view of upcoming new thermal projects.
President of the association Baldev Singh here on Saturday said that executive committee deliberated the urgent need to augment the transmission and sub-transmission system in Punjab keeping in view the commissioning of the new upcoming power plants both in the State as well as Central sector plants in which Punjab has a share.
He said that at present, the system was highly overloaded and was not sufficient to ensure that extra generation reaches the end consumers. He alleged that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) managements were not taking enough measures to create infrastructure required to tackle this issue. The association called upon the managements to look into the issue on top priority.
The association thanked Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal for giving go ahead to PSPCL for constructing 2x660 MW thermal plant under state sector at Mukerian. He stressed upon PSPCL management to gear up its activities to commission this thermal plant within the stipulated time frame.
He further said that generation under the state sector was urgently required and moreover adequate coal was also available in captive coal mines allotted to state at Pachhwara in Jharkhand. He demanded that the PSPCL management should frame a blueprint for execution of the plant and create the necessary infrastructure in order that there is no cost and time overrun.
The association cautioned the PSPCL management and the state government not to further roll out faulty billing software of Spanco to other towns in Punjab.
