CHANDIGARH: Central Electricity Regulatory commission (CERC) has proposed cheaper over drawl of power from the grid at lower frequency with some restrictions.
The proposal would be of immense benefits to state like Punjab and Haryana which were forced to buy power at Rs.10 Per unit. The capping of maximum charges for over drawl at Rs. 7.35 paise per unit would also reduce the buying/ selling rates from power exchanges. It may be mentioned that last year PSEB sold millions units of power through power exchange to earn crores.
CERC has proposed that the maximum rate of Rs. 10 per unit at lowest level of frequency be changed to Rs. 7.35 per unit. It has proposed Rs. 7.35 per unit at 49.22 HZ and free power at 50.30 Hz. Each 0.02 Hz step is equivalent to 12 paise per unit in the range of 50.3-49.5 Hz and it is 17 paise per unit in the frequency range of 49.5 – 40.22Hz.
The over drawl by any power utility shall be limited to 12 percent of its schedule drawl or 150 MW which ever is lower when the system frequency goes below 49.5 Hz. The payment for over drawl would be made in 10 days otherwise simple interest of 0.02 percent per day shall be charged
