Three Ropar thermal plant units trip

ROPAR: The power situation in Punjab worsened Monday morning after the tripping of three units of 210 MW each at Ropar Thermal plant.

According to sources unannounced power cuts were imposed in many parts of Punjab this morning after unit no. 1 and 2 of plant tripped around 10.30 due to a dip in system voltage. The Unit no 4 tripped subsequently on electrical fault. All the three units were revived by noon.

The power demand in the state on Sunday remained at 1775 lakh units against supply of 1428 lakh units. The power supply on Sunday improved as the state over drew power from northern grid. PSEB drew 704 lakh units against schedule of 653 lakh units.

Meanwhile PSEB has been ranked third among 33 power utilities of the country with a cash collection efficiency of 100 percent. This has been reported by Power Finance Corporation in its quarterly performance report of state power utilities for the period ending December 2008.The transmission and commercial losses of the board has also been reduced to 22.10 percent.

In the neighboring Haryana protest by villagers against poor power supply continued.Villagers blocked Ambala Hissar state highway at Pehowa and Kurukshetra Ladwa road at village Mathana. Villagers at Ladwa alleged that they got power only for one hour against commitment of six hour power supply. The power demand in state is more than 1053 lakh units
