PSEB Engineers’ Association in an emergency meeting of the office bearers held on 23.06.09 strongly condemned the attack on Additional Superintending Engineer Er. Amrik Singh at Amritsar. The unprovoked attack indicates enmity due to checking of electric connections carried out as per directions of the higher authorities. Similar incident took place with a senior officer at Kapurthala yesterday. There is unprecedented rise in demand of power this year due to delayed monsoons and PSEB is adopting all means for effective demand side management, checking of connections is one such method so that no wasteful use of electricity takes place & interests of honest consumers are protected. PSEB engineers have been checking the unauthorized loads and theft as per the instructions of the management to control sudden risk in demand.

Association demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and full protection to its officers while carrying out their official duties. In case culprits are not arrested immediately engineers will not be carrying out checking of connections in the prevailing circumstances for which honest consumer will suffer. If no action is taken to provide adequate security to engineers within three days time, agitation will be intensified
